3.0.2 Scheduled For This Week

A new version of ClassiPress is scheduled to be released this coming Friday. It is a general patch release that will address a handful of newly discovered bugs along with a couple of new enhancements. Not all fixes are listed below but rather just the higher priority issues.

Key Bug Fixes

  • Issue where translated CP prevents widget sidebars and footer from working
  • Admin page text is not included in the .pot translation file
  • HTML TinyMCE editor requires submit button to be pressed twice
  • Google maps get directions functionality gives a 404 error
  • Home page pagination incorrect by counting blog posts

New Enhancements

  • New option to show zero sub-categories in menu and home page
  • Auto link (with nofollow) URLs found in any custom fields
  • Auto set WordPress “New User Default Role” to Contributor
  • Set a default expiration date for ads that have empty cp_sys_expire_date

The last enhancement is actually a big one for several customers. It appears not everyone is creating ads with the ad submission form which has caused them some problems. These customers are using automated scripts to pull ads from other sites (via rss or xml feeds) which is fine of course, but if the ad creation process doesn’t go through the ClassiPress ad submission form, certain fields and values are empty.

You might have read some threads about ads expiring on January 1st, 1970 and wondered why this was happening.  In most cases it’s because the ad didn’t have and expiration date set so when ClassiPress tries to compare an empty date value to the current date/time, it uses the January 1st, 1970 12:00 date which is the start of Unix time and immediately expires the ad listing.

This new enhancement will check to see if the ad came in with an expiration date. If not, it will create one based on your “Ad Listing Period” value. That should help prevent these customers from ads expiring immediately.

It is recommended to always upgrade to the latest version, however there aren’t any security or stability issues that will be fixed in 3.0.2 so it’s not mandatory.

Existing customers will be able to download this updated version by using their original e-junkie download link. I know it’s a pain to keep going back to this email but we will be moving to a new portal system in May at which time you will be able to login and download any updates from there.

Not only will this make it much easier for you, but also for myself and the forum support staff. Having to manually look-up, verify, and resend download links for customers is not the best method. We have just outgrown our customer management system so it needs to be upgraded.

In addition, the forum will be moving to vBulletin which is a much better forum platform. It will also be restricted to customers-only which will allow us to provide you with better support.

    Hi David,
and thanks for your hard work.
Since all of classipress licence owners put a lot of time for customizing their website, I think its much appreciated that when you release a new patch or version of the theme to include a reference list to the files and line numbers that you have changed so we can easily check it out and just update to the latests release without starting over from the point zero.

    Ex:
1- issue where translated CP prevents widget sidebars and footer from working.
    Files: functions.php Line# 12 ,451,452 – step3.php Line# 5,6, 59

    and so on …

PS: I know about WinMerge software but since we have changed the code already its very hard to to compare all of theme files one by one together and manage to find the changes of the new release of CP.

pooya3d, when new releases come out, the changelog.txt file is updated to reflect this. It lists exactly what bugs/enhancements are included as well as the exact files that have been modified. In some cases the line numbers are included too but not always since the changes can be sometimes be extensive.

I also don’t recommend making a ton of changes to the core files anyhow especially with new releases. There will always be a series of patch releases (3.0.x) before it’s considered a “stable” version. Ideally it’s best to just create a ClassiPress child theme to avoid the typical upgrade problem you’re experiencing.

    Hey David,

Can you add a custom.css file in the update for us like WooThemes does? That way we can just put our css edits in there so they won’t be affected by upgrades? Perhaps there’s an easier way?

  • Seth Carstens

Actually, you can create your own themes pretty easy by adding 1 line of code and upload a new CSS file.

However I do agree there should be a way to tell the software about new theme files WITHOUT modifying core files that get overwritten on update.

    • David

I’m working on a better solution for this. Ideally there’s just an option you select that will automatically change this.

  • Seth Carstens

Oh also, is there a website or codeplex somewhere that we can submit code changes for your core files. I’ve been keeping a list, which I will get to “remodify” everytime I update the software. Would be nice to just submit my code to you for review so it can get used in the next update.

    • David

The ClassiPress codebase is stored in a hosted svn server but it’s not an opensource project so submitting changes is not possible.

Eventually I’d like to have something like this available or at the least a feature request list where people can vote it up or down.

Anyone know of a plugin that can do such a thing? If not, I’ll have to hire someone to build it. 😉

Nice work…great to keep things moving.

Great update with the style changer in 3.0.2 und custom.css

In the childtheme styleswitcher however there is a line missing to load the style of the child theme (otherwise no style will be included neither the parent- nor the childtheme syles):

    else {
    echo ” . “\n”;
