Vantage 1.0.1 is Near

Zen Tyler is HereNote: With Vantage 1.0.1 release coming in the next week or two, I’ve asked one of our developers – Tyler Carter – to write a blog post about it. Cheers ~ Shannon.

Sitting here in my nice comfortable office chair, behind two screens, looking at a terminal filled with teh codes, I’m excited about what we have coming up in the next few weeks. Vantage, our latest creation, is now getting stronger, faster, and overall more awesome.

Some of you may not know me. My name is Tyler Carter, and I program. I program in coffee shops, in churches, in people’s backyards. Sometimes I program on top of a nearby mountain with nothing but the tunes from my iPod and a soda (indeed, I am a blue dot on the Great Debate of the Universe). And yes, I would program on a plane, and I would program on a train. And in a car, and in the rain, and … well now this is just getting silly.

Anyway, getting back to the important matter at hand – Vantage 1.0.1.

Ever since 1.0 launched, a lot of work has been done and a lot more is in progress. We’ve been listening to everyone posting in the forums, and voting on the Ideas Exchange, and even those trying to telekinetically send your awesome suggestions right into our brains! Whoa! It’s a lot to handle.

Here are some of the things that we have coming to you in Vantage 1.0.1:

Bug Fixes
Vantage 1.0.1 is a maintenance release, meaning that the primary goal is to get fixes out for the problems you guys are having. We’ve made over 2,000 changes, making Vantage 1.0.1 a stronger theme.

Better Search
There were a few issues with search when Vantage 1.0 came out. But fear not, because with Vantage 1.0.1, you will see some big improvements to search results. More data, like a listing categories and tags, will be taken into consideration when creating the results.

Themed Login and Registration Pages
Vantage 1.0.1 now includes login and registration pages that fit in perfectly with the rest of your site. Everything from registering for the first time, recovering a lost password, or just logging in, is a single seamless experience.

There’s a lot of stuff in Vantage 1.0.1. Vantage is better, faster, and stronger than ever before. But don’t be worried if you don’t see what you’re looking for on this list. There’s still more to come – did I forget to mention Vantage 1.1? We’re already working on it.

Stay Tuned.

Thanks for the update. Improved search and themed registration/login will be awesome. Looking forward to seeing the other changes.

Definitely keen to see this release sooner rather than later, I’m waiting on this before launching a site.

In my opinion regionalization (by location – city/state) should not be a high priority, it should be a MUST have…just like category.

For directory, you should have the ability to choose to configure your directory to use CATEGORY only, Location only, or to use both. Lastly, lose the search bar window. Every directory script I had looked at always have a LARGE search window place right in the CENTER of the screen like as if it is a badge of honor.

Are you directory guys trying to emulate GOOGLE’s search bar ? 🙂 Try emulating craigslist — you will make us all very happy and more profitable.

Will you consider a BuddyPress version of Vantage? Something like MojoPages?
