ClassiPress 3.1 Preview

It’s been a while since we’ve released a major feature update to ClassiPress but the good news is there’s one just around the corner. Version 3.1 has been in the works for a while now and will include lots of sought after features.

We actually planned on releasing it a while back but wanted to wait for WordPress 3.0 to first be released so we could benefit from its new features.

The first most noteworthy change will be the usage of WordPress 3.0 custom post types and taxonomies. All ads will now be completely separate from blog posts which makes post and category management much easier.

Other features include:

  • Checkbox and radio button custom field types
  • New users can create a password on account sign-up
  • Tool tip icon added to custom fields on form
  • Advanced search which includes radius option
  • Custom ads write panel
  • Facebook sign-in & account creation module
  • Coupon code module
  • Ability to mark ads as “sold” and keep them live
  • TinyMCE option for each custom textarea field
  • Unlimited ad posting for xx days option
  • Email sent to ad owner 3 days before ad expires
  • Main ad image will be clickable
  • Adding Google maps character encoding option
  • Report this post feature
  • and much more!

We are feverishly working on this release and it should be ready by October 8th. See our theme release status page.

Yep, I’m with you here too. Too many features worth waiting for in 3.1. I’ve been holding off since I bought 3.04 a month ago. Please deliver on time… if not, please update your home page with an official announcement.

Thank You so much David for your reply , lot of things has been cleared now. But i would like to ask another question will this theme allow my visitors to post ad without registration as we can do in OLX , but post will be pending for administrator’s verification ?

  • Rich

    Hi,

Would it be possible to get a list of visitor experience features? For example, is there a visitor account where visitors can subscribe for specific types of email notifications – e.g. all new ads in a specific category and location? Visitors may also want to contact advertisers via a PM service.

    Thanks.

    Rich

I saw this less than an hour ago, they are referring to an earler post on this thread I do believe.

I believe the release date has been rescheduled due to an unforeseen event http://appthemes.com/blog/classipres…/#comment-2096 . You may check the blog for further announcement. it’s posted at http://appthemes.com/forum/showthread.php/10397-New-Version-ClassiPress-Release-Date

Looks like we may be in for a little wait.

  • Andres

At least you could come up with version 3.1 beta today in order us to buy it, and than, in a week or two with the final release.

This way we could use the new version on our websites and update them in the future. So we could use a lot of new features and manage our websites without having to wait for the final release.

I am very anxious to buy the new version, even if it’s a beta.

@Andres, we won’t have a public beta available. You can purchase the current version and get everything setup. There will be a migration tool built into 3.1.

  • Sanj

Since I’ve been a customer you guys have never released an update (or any of these new themes) on time. Very disappointing – especially when many of us plan our projects around the deadlines you state

  • Dave

    Here’s my dilemmna.
I’ve been waiting for this release to buy the site.
But it’s coming down to crunch time, and if I don’t buy soon it won’t be good.

So, if I buy the theme now, add posts, and do minor tweaks, will I lose everything when upgrading? The tweaks are more CSS related, but I’m sure they’re will be one or two php tweaks as well.

@Dave, yes you can set things up with the current version. There will be a migration tool built into 3.1. 🙂

  • Andres

Hello again guys, after reviewing the demo, I am waiting for version 3.1 to come up. Hope you release it until 31 octuber.

Also, wanted to tell you that would be important in this new version to have the posibility to change the main description box for the ads for each category. This way, this field wich I see it’s obligatory, we can change its name in case we need to do it for each category/subcategory.

  • Andres

In the new version, would be nice to personalize the contact form or at least to have the possibility to upload documents to it.

  • hazara

    i fall asleep while waiting

  • Andres

Hello again guys, can you please tell me if in version 3.1 we will be able to list Provinces or Countries in the sitebar like in OLX ? Also to have this possibility in the Search Form ???

Because right now, in version 3.0.4, this thing is impossible right ???

    Many thanks

The delay is an unfornatunate turn of events – I could sense the frustrations building in the forums, and it is a shame appthemes couldnt consider more timely interim release of key improvements. The form builder was a huge let down for many, forgetting the fundmental checbox/radio buttons options. Makes my site look shoddy at that level, and a damn site harder to cusotmise form fully, which at least could do with the old form format.. I will stay “faithful” but I think you should examine release schedules when they have so many requirements. i.e. more frequent releases. I realise you are trying to sell a product – and that is what I think primarily drives development. But your existing customers have sold up to classipress, some like me from early on, and should also figure in dev planning. Its a long while since last release, and unfortunately your direct competitor (the one who “borrowed” your code ;)) is way advanced on the form building side. Though still quite shoddily coded, and bizarrely still completely avoiding the wordpress post/category system!

Unfortunatly the one “feature” I really need doesn’t sem to be included.

Letting the user create his own password is a great improvement, and so is the possibility ro report an ad, but what I really need is to allow unregistered users to post ads, as I believe it once was with previous versions of classipress.

I know I can hack it like some of the people here in the forums already did, but I’d like it to be part of the official version. I’m sure you guys can figure out a way to implement it.

I’ve managed other classified ads sites and I can assure you that by not allowing unregistered users to post an ad, actually drives those users away looking for any other site that allows it, and there are many of those out there.

Mind you, I’m not suggesting anonymous ads. I know where that leads.
But with a mandatory email field, and an ad aproval queue, it shouldn’t be too hard to accept the ad right when the user is on my site willing to post it.

Think this is more awkward than may first appear – if an ad is submitted with no user details, how are you going to enforce a connection between user and ad? They would have to give at least an email address anyway. Have you considered allowing people to log in using existing facebook/twitter/Hotmail login details? I found this was a good workaround to off-putting registration. Gigya is good service for this, and there are other good plugins for facebook/twitter to be found on the wordpress plugins site. You dont need to be a techie to do it either – Gigya will do all the setup of this for you, for about 15 social networking options. The autofbconnect plugin is also very sound. Its valuable to collect user details even on a basic level.

I did mention “mandatory email field” on my last sentence 🙂

I can accept that the ad will need to be reviewed by an admin before being displayed.

… pressed submit too early 🙂

For a registered user you can offer some little advantages like pre-filling in some of the ad fields, like his contact email, and location… Those don’t change often. And you could accept the ad immediatly.

But for a new user, you could let him fill in the ad, with mandatory email, and maybe a captcha, and keep it in a validation queue, while you send out a validation link to his email. Or keep it until an admin validates it.

          There are many options here.

Will I just be able to push upgrade to update classipress, or will I have to reinstall my entire site?

I am redoing it, and am wondering how easy it will be to switch from the current to the new.

Should I wait or can I build it now?

  • Jimmy

Feature request: Can you make the poster feature more robust: Make posters searchable and categorized, more options for the poster profile, and have the ability to make a mini business listing page for the posters.

I know that there’s a theme release page but I was just curious if there is a possibilty of it being sooner so I know not to customize many things and how long I can be expecting to wait. I know I’m not the first to ask but the anxiety for these new features is killing me I can’t sleep at night! Thanks

Hi David, I have a question about the Coupon Code Module.

    Is this a module that

(1)allows you to give coupons codes to people who are purchasing ads on your site so they can receive a discount (ie. save 20% on your ad posting when you enter code ABCDEF; or

    (2) Allows you to actually post coupon listings on the site, similar to what you will be offering in the Clipper theme?

Please clarify, and if it is closer to feature (1) than feature (2), is it possible that you will include feature (2) in a later release?

    Thanks!
